How the app works

Aurasma is a free app to experience AR. To start your journey with ARCH, you have to first register yourself in Aurasma (for free as well!). Then you can simply search for and follow the channel ARCULTUREHK in Aurasma right before explore our landmarks! This is a crucial step to join our project. If you miss it, you will not be able to see our overlay learning materials even you are pointing your camera on any of our spot images.

FAQ about ARCH

  1. What is a “landmark” and what is a “spot image”?
    A landmark is a place that has distinctive historical and cultural values of Hong Kong. In each landmark, you can find at least 3 spot images on which learning material is overlaid and accessible by AR via Aurasma.
  2. What is the suggested route to see all of the landmarks?
    Most of our landmarks are clustered in the city centre along Victoria Harbour within walking distance from one another. So we suggest going on a day trip starting from either Hong Kong or Kowloon side of the city, and crossing the harbour by Star Ferry.
  3. What equipments do I need to play AR?
    All you need is wifi-access or data on your mobile device and the app Aurasma.
  4. When do I need to download Aurasma?
    Any time before you embark on your journey to discover Hong Kong’s hidden stories!
  5. Can I access to the question page without using Aurasma?
    Sorry, the question page is only linked via Aurasma.
  6. The Aurasma app doesn’t work. It does not reveal the learning materials. What should I do?
    As with all the other mobile apps, Aurasma does experience some image-recognition problems occasionally. Try to change the angle of your mobile camera when you are at the spot images.
  7. How can I understand more about the historical or cultural topics related to the answer?
    Check the reference list near the bottom on every landmark page.
  8. What will happen when I answer all questions of a landmark?
    If you are a registered participant, you will receive a reward on your achievement page for your earnest participation!
  9. Will you keep updating the landmarks and spot images?
    What you are experiencing here is only the first stage of our project, our team aims at expanding our scale and adding more landmarks as soon as we can.
